This study aims to answer empirically the following questions: does internationalization cause the convergence of national labour-relations? How do shifting economic circumstances affect the performance of national labour-relation systems? The study takes on the aspect of internationalization that deals specifically with labour relations and analyses the dispersion of transnational market competition that comes in conflict with established labour relations as a mode of non-market governance. This chapter presents convergence in different perspectives; it associates convergence with the theory of industrial society, looks at convergence with an efficiency view, links convergence with diversity, and other such viewpoints. Also, this chapter examines the persistence of certain institutions in terms of their development and performance.
