This chapter scrutinizes the role of the international refugee regime on the provision of durable solutions for refugee problem worldwide. A durable solution is in stark contrast with emergency relief which is meant only to satisfy the physical wants of refugees for a short period of time. But the final goal of a durable solution includes re-establishing refugees within the society. The chapter focuses on the influence of the international regime on promoting durable solutions directly. All the actors in the international refugee regime considered voluntary repatriation that is the uncoerced return of refugees back to their country of origin as the most desirable durable solution.
