Jean Desmarets's first and last plays for the Palais-Cardinal theatres were intended for performance with ballet, as some of his other plays may also have been. Before the ballet-prologue for Europe two other great celebratory political ballets — La Félicité and La Prospérité — as principal poet, dancer, and choreograph. There are important themes not only of La Félicité but also of La Prospérité and of the ‘Prologue’ to Europe, on which Desmarets is known to have been working around this time. Another source records the celebrations in Italy, especially in Venice. Displays included an emblem that depicted the Dauphin on a globe, dominant over parts of the world. In Paris, Jesuits arranged spectacular festivities, including one in which an artificial sun, by shedding light on a moon, produced dolphin crowned by two angels, on a background of royal insignia in lights.
