Abstract

Fathpur Sikri emerged as a prominent political, social, and cultural centre during the reign of Akbar. Yet much remains to be known about it. Did it emerge all of a sudden or was there a city in existence before Akbar ordered the construction of his palaces there? Was it just an individual’s vision? Who were the builders?
