Abstract

Deforestation has become synonymous with the Assam forests. Assam forests, illustrated as magnificent and grandiose in the pre-colonial period, were subjected to transformations under the colonial rule and post-colonial period. During this transformation period, the commerce of forestry and the peasant society were considered responsible for deforestation.
