Risk factors on the micro, mezzo and macro levels for child maltreatment are examined. The types of maltreatment (physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect) are discussed together with their long-term impacts. Suggestions for the prevention of child maltreatment are examined, as well as governmental systems to protect children including reporting systems, foster care and orphanages.
