This chapter concentrates on presenting the themes that emerge within each of the three divisions that organize the chapters in this volume. Firstly, the developmental and contextual aspects of student motivation over time; followed by a discussion on the students' social cognitions, motivational processes, and outcomes in school; and finally the interventions to enhance academic motivation. Presentation of these themes begins with an examination of the individual sections of the volume and then moves toward the characterization of the volume as a whole.
