This chapter looks at the value in health care in the United States. Section 2.1 considers what we get for the dollars spent in the United States. Section 2.2 identifies the price inflators that are difficult to control but easy to measure in terms of growing morbidity and incidence rates, while Section 2.3 looks at costs that are easier to control but harder to measure precisely. Section 2.4 assesses how increasing health care costs are a cause of conflict. Section 2.5 discusses the push-pull dynamics of health care costs using the Gordian knot as a metaphor.
