This chapter tries to summarize the progress the book has made in answering the question in the title. It uses a set of twelve criteria suggested by Allen Newell for measuring progress in cognitive science. The chapter ends by discussing how the buffer structure of the modules, by which they communicate to achieve integrated cognition, provides a satisfactory interpretation of human consciousness.
