This chapter provides background on the two central churches examined in this study: Grace, a second-generation Korean church and Manna, a multiethnic church. It presents an overview of the history, people, and religious practices of the two churches. The relevance of Grace and Manna as cases of congregations with different approaches to connecting race, ethnicity, and civic life is discussed.
