This chapter begins with a discussion of common experimental paradigms or approaches employed for electrophysiological recordings. It then presents a brief review of neuronal biophysics related to microelectrode recordings followed by a discussion of different measurement techniques and their associated noise sources. Finally, analysis methods for voltage time series recorded from microelectrodes are discussed.
