This chapter examines the relation between democracy and religion in Brazil through a study of the leading evangelical politicians in the country during the 2002 presidential election. It focuses on the political positions of Liberal Party federal deputy Bishop Carlos Rodrigues who was the political coordinator of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and former Rio de Janeiro state governor Anthony Garotinho who was a Sunday school teacher from the Presbyterian Church.
