The Tale of the Scale

Solly Angel

Oxford University Press

In May 1987, Solly Angel made an American journey and his major stop was the City of Rolling Hills, California, where Tommy Heinsheimer was the mayor. He was also a brilliant, self-assured, and rather dismissive aerospace engineer. He laughed at the scale project. After this, Angel had two leads: a company he found in the Thomas Register, Transducer Techniques, that was located in Rancho, California, within driving distance of Rolling Hills; and an old Bangkok hand, also called Tom, who was an electronics engineer and lived in New Hampshire. Going to Transducer Techniques resulted in the idea of a thin load cell, but there was still confusion on how it would work.
