This chapter presents an overview of the state of scientific evidence for the association between obesity-related risk factors and cancer. Data provide convincing evidence of a positive association of overweight and obesity with cancers of the colon (among men), renal cell, postmenopausal breast, endometrium, and probable evidence of a positive association with colon cancer (among women), adenocarcinoma of the esophagus and gastric cardia, and thyroid cancer (among women). On the other hand, the chapter states, epidemiologic studies do not demonstrate an association of weight or BMI with prostate cancer incidence.
