This chapter describes the use of psychoeducation for the problem of ADHD in a child. Background information on psychoeducation with families and then the rationale for its application to ADHD is provided. The case application is used to illustrate the main components of a psychoeducational approach: joining, which includes recognition of parenting; education about ADHD (a description of the disorder, its prevalence, and a discussion of its causes); education about medication; and information on risk factors for the disorder and strategies to ameliorate risk.
