This chapter presents some thoughts about the various dilemmas faced by medicine at the end of the 20th century. It recounts experiences as a resident and a physician. It draws attention to the note of uneasiness that underlies present-day medical progress: the more we known about medicine the more questions we encounter about what to do with this information. The chapter addresses the issue of how to draw the line between ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’ in medicine.
