The Contributive Obligation

The Contributive Obligation

(p.97) Chapter 5 The Contributive Obligation
The Civic Minimum

Stuart White (Contributor Webpage)

Oxford University Press

This chapter addresses the question of what citizens must do to fulfil their contributive obligation as a matter of fair reciprocity. This obligation should be understood in terms of the citizen’s duty to meet a basic work expectation: a minimum number of hours and years of paid employment, adjusted for specific care work responsibilities. The supply of capital is also a form of productive contribution, and will require adjustment of the citizen’s work expectation.
