Vision is the main theme of this book, and the introduction starts by discussing this concept, which is given a far more restricted meaning than that in general use: rather than using ‘vision’ to indicate creative foresight, which leads to getting things done correctly, the book conceptualizes it in terms of belief, which may lead to getting things done incorrectly (here referred to as vision failure). The further sections of the introduction discuss visions of the firm (addressed in Ch. 1), vision and the evolution of firms (addressed in Chs. 2–4), and vision and public policy‐making (addressed in Chs. 5–7). Within each section, an outline is given of the material covered in each chapter.

Keywords:   belief, companies, evolution of firms, firms, policy‐making, public policy‐making, vision, vision failure
