This chapter reviews the changes in John Hicks's economic theory since his Theory of Wages was first published in 1932. In particular, it looks at a chapter entitled ‘Distribution and Economic Progress’ which was to be the first theoretical chapter in that book. Chapter I explains how he has moved away from the ideas presented in that chapter, and in so doing, describes important work he has done in all the time from 1932 to the present.
