This chapter presents the story of John B. Goins’ attempt to dethrone A.J. Tomlinson at Cleveland. John B. Goins joined the Church of God as one of Tomlinson prized recruits. In August 1909, Tomlinson departed to fulfill a pastoral appointment, leaving Goins in charge. Goins’ took advantage of his absence and introduced liturgical reforms, and managed to get Tomlinson kicked out of his own church.
