This chapter looks in detail at the history of the text of Gyōnen's Jōdo Hōmon Genrushō. It presents information on xylograph editions of the Genrushō, modern editions, and extant premodern commentaries dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Lastly, it gives a translator's note, which explains that the chapter divisions in the translation that follows generally follow the way in which xylograph editions are divided, but that for ease of access, other divisions have been added, resulting in eight chapters.
