Leadership Transition

Leadership Transition

(p.43) 4 Leadership Transition
Before the Singing

Barbara M. Tagg

Oxford University Press

This chapter discusses the effects of leadership transition on the choral organization, specifically community children’s choirs and youth choirs. It provides a guide for seeking new artistic leadership. This includes the preparation of the board of directors; appointing a search committee; creating a job description; developing a timeline; candidate reviews, interviews, auditions, and evaluations, and orientation for the new director. Successful navigation of transition and succession is necessary to maintain children’s choirs.
