This chapter describes Robert Schumann's period of training under Friedrich Wieck. Schumann felt neglected by Wieck as the latter's primary concern was establishing his daughter's career as a pianist. Schumann asked Johann Nepomuk Hummel to be his teacher and sent him a solo selection from a piano concerto in F major that he had composed. Schumann later studied music with Heinrich Dorn, but Dorn ended the lessons with Schumann because of his lack of commitment.
