Inequalities of Policing

(p.232) 10 Inequalities of Policing
In Thrall to Political Change

Malcolm Anderson

Oxford University Press

This chapter examines the police and policing in France in relation to the Republican principle of equality. It first explains how police organisation and political considerations result in inequality before turning to a discussion of the relationship between government and the police, political scandals involving the police, and special policing arrangements. In particular, it looks at senior police officials’ frequent contact with ministers. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the policing of Paris and the integration of the Prefecture of Police into the national police.
