“Rise and Look Around You”

“Rise and Look Around You”

From Clear Day to Coco, 1965–1970

(p.151) Chapter 5 “Rise and Look Around You”
Alan Jay Lerner

Dominic McHugh

Oxford University Press

This chapter deals mainly with Lerner’s two stage musicals of the 1960s: Coco and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Both took many years to develop, with difficulties in finding suitable composers and stars. Lerner also brought Camelot, Paint Your Wagon, and On a Clear Day to the screen in these years, and the book contains generous samples from his correspondence with Katharine Hepburn, the star of Coco.
