Abstract

This book provides a comprehensive metaphysics of causation that reconciles the need for causation in the special sciences with the limited role of causation in physics. The positive account presented is distinctive by (1) exploiting a signature distinction between fundamental and derivative reality and (2) implementing of a non-standard philosophical methodology that provides guidance as to which issues need to be addressed as part of the metaphysics and which issues can be delegated.
