The Ethic We Need: Change and Imagination

(p.111) 4 The Ethic We Need: Change and Imagination
Earth-honoring Faith

Larry L. Rasmussen

Oxford University Press

The ethic we need, whether religious or secular, entails a different moral universe. It is a moral framework that begins moral reflection with attention to the health of the primal elements necessary to all life—earth (soil), air, fire (energy), water. Human responsibility includes the well-being of these elements. This chapter discusses the kinds, levels, and sources of change we need in order to re-frame the moral universe and move beyond an unsustainable industrial-technological way of life.

Keywords:   kinds of change, levels of change, sources of change, the dialectic of change, moral imagination, transcendence
