Note: Comparison of the achieved sample of the Casefile dataset and the national Homicide Index for England/Wales (which includes both Murder and Manslaughter) indicates similar patterns between the variables that can be compared, e.g., age, gender, and relationship.

Twenty-eight women were not included because they were not an intimate partner, there was no sexual attack in the murder, or they were not over age 65.

Details of 28 women not included in the three types:

  • Twelve Intimate Partner Collaterals (IPC), women under age 65 and with no sex in the murder (three friends/acq./protectors and nine relatives/protectors inc. mothers, sisters, mothers-in-law)

  • Sixteen women under age 65 and with no sex in the murder (10 short acquaintances; 4 neighbors/friends; and 2 business acquaintances)
