Abstract

How do movies keep us riveted to the screen and thoroughly engage our sensations, thoughts, and feelings? Can scientific inquiry help us understand why we watch them and why we like them? Largely through trial and error, filmmakers have developed powerful techniques that capture the attention of audiences—visually, mentally, and emotionally.
