This chapter presents the author’s attempt to see religious life as floating free of the usual supernaturalist metaphysical picture. It also looks at the viability of significant work in an area without foundational questions being settled. It examines the concept of awe and love as pillars of religious life. It provides an account of awe: a sense of being ennobled and at the same time humbled. Finally it looks at how to engage in genuine traditional religious practice in the absence of metaphysical commitments.
