Immigrants immediately reflected on the huge transition in their lives. They thought back to former lives, reveled in or regretted drastic changes and lamented lost opportunities. Then they added thoughts about families left behind, disappointment at living or working conditions. Finally, their thoughts turned to growing old in their adopted homeland.
