This chapter presents an edited compilation of a series of dialogues between Michael Kessler and Mark Lilla, José Casanova, and John Milbank held at Georgetown University from 2008 to 2009. In a discussion of Lilla’s recent book The Stillborn God, these distinguished scholars lay the groundwork for thinking about how our present configurations of the intersection of politics and religion came to be and the challenges posed to Western political theologies today.
