This chapter summarizes the main argument of the book and the central issues on which acceptance or rejection of the doctrine of purgatory turn. It reiterates that the doctrine of purgatory is not an alternative to the doctrine of grace, but is itself an expression of grace. Purgatory is a positive doctrine that holds together God's goodness both as his demand for moral goodness and perfection, as well as his desire for our happiness and flourishing, which can only be fully realized when we are fully transformed.
