Reflections on 'The Concept of Law'

AW Brian Simpson

Oxford University Press

This chapter sets out the focus of the book, namely the author's personal relationship with HLA Hart's The Concept of Law, a book which has fascinated him for some fifty years. The aim of this book is to go back to The Concept of Law as it was written back in the 1950s and 1960s, and to the intellectual context in which it was produced. To this end this chapter considers a number of Hart's writings which date from around this time.
