Perception provides contact with the world. The processes that yield such contact are mainly unconscious and so are some of the products of these processes. At the same time, human consciousness is filled by perceptual content. Psychologists and philosophers have an interest in finding appropriate characterizations for both the processes and products of perception. This chapter provides an overview of the issues involved in such an enterprise, including a brief history and a summary of each author’s contribution.

Keywords:   perception, consciousness, perceptual products, perceptual processes
