The excursion into history in previous chapters has revealed a basic dichotomy shining through many theoretical accounts of apraxia. It opposes a higher mental to a lower motor level of action control. This opposition is a leading threat to the review of modern theories and empirical evidence of apraxia. Application of the high versus low level dichotomy to apraxia opposes cognitive and motor aspects of manual actions.
