This chapter traces the process through which two (imaginary) students develop their hearings of a brief Minuet by Beethoven. As the students’ hearings evolve, they come to hear the Minuet as a “developing musical structure.” At the same time, and through this process, the students are necessarily developing their own mental “musical structures.” And as the students learn, they come to hear the Minuet as “learning,” too.
