In examining whether there are similarities or systematic differences in opportunity and business creation in the UK and Japan, the ‘AMO’ framework, which treats performance as a fusion of ability, motivation, and opportunity, is adopted. It is emphasized that the entrepreneurs' backgrounds have to be accounted for since it is through this that we may be able to analyze motivations, discover opportunities, and find a trigger that leads to new opportunities and business creation. The first section compares the backgrounds of the entrepreneurs while the second compares the motivations of these entrepreneurs for starting the business by citing excerpts and some relevant answers from the survey. Finally, the chapter summarizes a comparison of the effects of market-pull, technology-push, and other approaches to entrepreneurship.
