This introductory chapter discusses the importance of stories and narratives to the provision of care. It also expresses concern with the workings and the effects of narratives and stories, which is a central theme in this book. Further on in the chapter the relation of narrative and palliative care is explored and a detailed summary of each of the fifteen preceding chapters is provided.
