This chapter deals with the complicated relationship between Salafism and politics by analyzing the Indonesian Salafi group Laskar Jihad, led by Ja’far Abu Thalib. It shows how the movement turned to jihad by rejecting politics as hizbiyya (partyism). The chapter also deals with internal debates on the so-called Sourouris, who mixed the politics of the Muslim Brotherhood with Salafism. It also deals with the links between Salafis in Indonesia and the Yemeni Salafi Muqbil ibn Hadi al-Wadi’i.
