This chapter provides a history of Salafism in Britain, tracing its origins and development through a host of different groups. It explains why Salafism, on account of its clarity and simplicity, has such an appeal, especially for the British Muslim youth. The chapter also shows how Salafism, due to its sectarian character, is prone to splits, and discusses the debates that dominate the contemporary Salafi scene in Britain.
