This chapter is based on extensive research into one of the most prominent Salafi-Jihadi activists, Abu Mus’ab al-Suri, who played an important role in the jihad in Afghanistan. The chapter traces his history and his ideas. Special attention is given to the fall-out between Abu Qatada al-Filastini and Abu Mus’ab al-Suri and the differences between them concerning strategy, doctrine and violence.
