This chapter gives an analysis of the different forms of political activism and places Salafism within that spectrum. It argues that Salafist religious doctrines do not explain the political conduct of Salafism’s adherents. All the terms researchers have used only add to the confusion. Instead, it argues, one should look at the rationales or strategies of Salafism and other Islamic movements.
