Eupolis’ Dates and Career
This chapter begins by noting two ancient sources containing the bulk of the information about Eupolis — the Suda and from an anonymous writer Peri kōmōdias. It tries to discover Eupolis' identity and the time period when he existed. It summarizes the evidence for each of the undated plays and presents a finished table of his works. It examines the four ancient traditions about the death of Eupolis or about his place of burial. It shows the secure and tentative dates when Eupolis accomplished his comedies.
