This chapter examines the historical background of the Christianization of British America. Though the history of Great Britain's overseas Christian missions begun in American colonies, these events were omitted in the history of early American religion. This mission encouraged an exceptionalist interpretation of early American Protestantism and dissociated the Christianization of British America from the spread of Christianity in Britain and other parts of the British Empire.
