Taking its title from the title of another of her articles, this chapter recounts the crisis she faced when Francis Cornford married the much younger Frances Darwin. There is a description of the Marlowe Dramatic Society's production of Milton's Comus in which Francis and Frances both took part (as did Rupert Brooke), while Harrison as chaperone became acutely aware of her age. The lack of reciprocity in her relationship to Cornford is discussed, together with her sour attitude to marriage. Further health problems, notably surgery on her toes as a result of rheumatoid arthritis, are described. At the same time, she began to realize that her passion for ‘origins’ was not shared by Murray and Cornford, and intuited that their collaboration was beginning to unravel. The painting by Augustus John captures her depression.
