Dancing on Delos: Δαλίων θύγατρες between Myth, Ritual, and theoria
This chapter examines choral performances on Delos, a centre of theoria, the peculiar form of state-pilgrimage previously mentioned. It sets out the fundamental case of how aetiological myth is re-enacted in choral performance, and how the breakdown of mythical past and ritual present in choral performances allows a constant reformulation of mythical pasts and ritual presents through sacred performances taken for granted in later chapters.
