This chapter examines the role of law in effecting change in the status of women in paid labour in Great Britain. In order to achieve this, the myths that presently imbue law with its apparent sanctity must be abandoned and new premises fashioned. One of the first steps towards remodelling law is a comprehensive reform of the present remedial and adjudicative structure. This chapter provides a critical assessment of the ways in which these legal structures have undermined or curtailed the potential of the law.
