This chapter introduces the underlying difference between a forward problem and an inverse problem. Fundamental issues such as solvability, computability, sensitivity, and feasibility are raised. Different formulations based on the prescribed spectral and structural constraints are classified via a nomenclative system and an inclusion diagram.
