This chapter examines why the church in Jerusalem adopted a Chalcedonian Christology while other regions in Palestine chose Monophysitism. It attempts to answer the questions why Euthymius accepted Chalcedon, why Marcianus and his followers reconciled with the Patriarchate, and why the ordinations performed by Jacob bar Addai did not produce a Monophysite episcopate in Palestine. This chapter also discusses the special situation of the Palestinian church which prevented the emergence of a strong Monophysite church in the area.
